It’s a Process!

It’s a Process!   Learning how to change our habits , our cooking style, our way of thinking.  I want to help you through your journey of health and wellness.

As I start my recipe creating part of my career, I look back at my own journey to more nutrient dense based eating over the past 10 years.  At first I would just look up recipes on the internet and many would fail.   Then I found websites that I trusted including other holistic nutritionist’ recipes like Joyous Health, Joy McCarthy and My New Roots, Sarah Britton.  As well as, healthy food bloggers like Angela Liddon of Oh She Glows, and especially Minimalist Baker who I love their recipes and their mission. “We share plant-based recipes requiring 10 ingredients or less, 1 bowl, or 30 minutes or less to prepare. All eaters are welcome.” Quote by Minimalist Baker.

I hope that I can stand beside and as the saying goes, on the shoulders of giants, such as the people I have mentioned.   “Using the understanding gained by major thinkers who have gone before in order to make intellectual progress”.

Today I tried “From My Bowl” by Caitlin Shoemaker, No-Bake Granola Bars linked here.

They are extremely simple and delicious.   Since they are no-bake, they do fall apart a bit and the crumbles are delicious as well! Crumbles can be used as granola on yoghurt.  They may be better made into protein balls.   Below I suggest creativity to the recipe using the items I have in my kitchen.  You can apply this to my recipes – free spirit of using what you have and not having every single correct ingredient.  Growing up on a farm helped me with this creativity to recipes, being too far from the store to get the item so just dealing with what was in the kitchen when cooking.

No-Bake Granola Bars Recipe – Twisted

No-Bake Granola Bars suggests 1/2 cup of tahini and sunflower butter combined to make the recipe have no nuts. I had almond butter so filled up my 1/2 cup with mostly almond butter and added a large tablespoon to fill up the 1/2 cup of tahini (adds a great source of calcium!)  Adding spices, cause they are full of antioxidants and phytonutrients. hand mixed no bake granola squares

My suggestion for quick easy balls or crumbling no-bake squares

1/2 cup of maple syrup

1/2 cup of nut/ tahini/ seed butter mixed together.

Then add in 1/3 cup of sunflower, pumpkin seeds, dried fruit (cranberries or chopped up apricots or dates)  each.    Really three 1/3 cups of anything you have chopped nuts, shredded coconut can be substituted into this.

Add 2 tbsp of cocoa nibs or chocolate chips

1 cup oats,

1/2 cup of shredded coconut

1/4 cup of oat flour or coconut flour(you can make this in by blending oats if you don’t have it).

Add a pinch of salt, 1/8 tsp of nutmeg, 1/8 tsp of ground clove, 1/2 tsp of no-bake granola pressing downginger powder and 1 tsp of cinnamon and stir everything together.

Put parchment paper in 9″x9″ pan or 11″ x 7″ pan.  Press the mix into it and let it stand for at least half hour before cutting it.   Or make into protein balls.

My goal is to share healthy food recipes and introduce more nutrient dense items into your kitchen.
