Want a simple side – steamed Broccoli.

What could be easier – this is what we do when we want a simple, fast meal.  We typically pair it with fish and basmati rice (which is a white rice that has a low glycemic load – so no blood sugar increase). 

If I want an Asian flair – I will just add a little coconut aminos to my plated food.  

Why Steamed Broccoli 🥦 ?

Broccoli 🥦 is a good source of minerals (potassium, calcium and iron) and vitamins (C, K, A), and good fiber. As well as antioxidants, that may help protect against chronic diseases such as cancer and heart disease. Broccoli and other cruciferous contains sulfur-rich antioxidant and anti-inflammatory compound “sulforaphane” that helps detoxification process, overall health and has immune-boosting effects.
 
Steamed vegetables retain their nutrients, cruciferous veggies retain their sulfur rich compounds. Steaming is better than boiling veggies to retain minerals, water-soluble vitamins.

Steamed Broccoli 🥦

Broccoli florets to a crisp tender!
Broccoli and other cruciferous veggies are sulfur-rich are high in anti-oxidants, anti-inflammatory and help the body detox. Add Cruciferous veggies to your meals at least 3-5 times a week or daily!

Ingredients
  

  • 2 broccoli crowns cut into florets

Toppings – Butter, salt or coconut aminos

Instructions
 

  • Prep: Wash and cut the broccoli into florets.
  • Fill a pot with water, ensuring it doesn't touch the bottom of the steamer basket. 
  • Bring the water to a boil. 
  • Place the broccoli florets in the steamer basket.
  • Cover the pot and steam for 5-7 minutes, or until the broccoli is tender-crisp. 
  • Check the broccoli with a fork to ensure it's cooked to your liking. 
  • Remove the broccoli from the steamer and serve immediately
