You can make your own Vanilla Extract!

Dietary Symbols – link

Three items – Vanilla beans, clear alcohol and time. All you need is time for it to extract the vanilla into your bourbon or vodka or rum. Really that’s it!  I prefer vodka for a clearer taste of vanilla bean.

With the rising prices for real vanilla extract, this is a great trick worth learning.

I was lucky to be introduced by my friend Aubrie, her aunt has been making it for years and sent some to Aubrie while she was living with us. We tried the bourbon vanilla and wow that was amazing – we actually drank it in a cocktail. Then I used the amber bottle that has 6 vanilla pods so I added vodka and made some vanilla extract!   Wait for 3 to 6 months and voila Real Vanilla Extract!

Vanilla Beans

Vanilla Beans are sourced from different areas in the world from vanilla orchids. I have been to Zanzibar Island, Africa Spice tour where they grow vanilla beans.  Madagascar is the most popular USA imported vanilla – 78% comes form Madagascar) than Uganda and Indonsian,  Tahitian is also popular online. Many prefer these over Mexican vanilla bean taste. The USA grows some vanilla in its most southern states. Get a good source since you can use them over and over again upto 5 times.

Easy Dairy Free CUSTARD! – this would be amazing on the side with these pancakes – yes please!

How to make this Vanilla Extract Recipe fool proof?

You can use a clear jar if you keep it in the dark. I prefer to use an amber jar. Amber jar for vanilla extract gives light protection (from harmful UV rays that can break down the aromatic compounds), maintaining the extract’s rich flavor and aroma.

Amber jar or clear jar should be stored in a dark, cool place.
